Our story

Started with one roaster and a very patient landlord.

Maya and Theo opened Vela in the winter of 2019 with a secondhand roaster, a chalkboard, and a stubborn belief that a neighbourhood deserves coffee made with actual care. Six years on, we still roast in small batches out back — you can smell Thursday from the sidewalk.

Every cup is a relationship: with the farm it came from, the person who pulled it, and the regular whose order we already know. Pull up a stool. Stay a while.
